The third-quarter earnings call emphasized manufacturing investments, stronger government margins and the timing of new reactor orders, while management reaffirmed its long-term financial targets.

BWXT Tightens 2026 Guidance and Outlines 2027 Growth

Government Margins Strengthen BWXT's Earnings Outlook

Government Operations revenue increased 4% to $639.1 million, while adjusted EBITDA advanced 22% to $144.2 million. The segment's adjusted EBITDA margin reached 22.6%.

During questions from BNP Paribas, Fitzgerald attributed stronger margins primarily to improved naval nuclear manufacturing efficiency and productivity rather than unusually favorable contributions from newer programs.

CEO Rex Geveden highlighted expanding defense fuels enrichment and high-purity depleted uranium activities. Construction has begun on a new facility supporting the company's $1.6 billion depleted uranium contract.

BWXT Accelerates Commercial Manufacturing Expansion

Commercial Operations revenue increased 25% to $314.2 million, including 15% organic growth. Fitzgerald cited commercial power, Kinectrics, medical operations and the PCG acquisition as contributors.

Geveden said BWXT completed its Cambridge manufacturing expansion, increasing heavy-component production capacity by approximately 50%. The company is also evaluating a new U.S. facility for steam generators and reactor pressure vessels.

Responding to Seaport Research, Geveden clarified that the proposed U.S. investment would not depend on firm orders. Potential manufacturing investment in Poland, however, would require committed orders and government partnerships.

Advanced Nuclear Awards Expand BWXT's Opportunities

Geveden highlighted the selection of BWXT's BANR microreactor technology for the U.S. Army's Janus program and a Canadian transportable nuclear power project. BWXT also secured an initial one-metric-ton TRISO fuel agreement with Antares.

During questions from Alembic Global Advisors, Geveden characterized the Canadian project as an early-stage opportunity requiring further financing and development. Fort Campbell remains the first prospective BANR deployment.

Responding to William Blair, Geveden said improvements could at least quadruple TRISO fuel output at Lynchburg.

Larger production investments would require substantial additional demand and commercial availability of high-assay low-enriched uranium.

BWXT Prioritizes Cash Flow and Disciplined Investment

Third-quarter free cash flow increased to $150.5 million from $94.9 million a year earlier. Fitzgerald raised the lower end of 2026 free cash flow guidance, establishing a $350-$360 million range.

For 2027, management anticipates flat to slightly higher free cash flow, reflecting continued capital spending and working capital requirements. Fitzgerald also identified pension contributions and program milestone timing as headwinds during questions from Wells Fargo.

Responding to CJS Securities, Fitzgerald emphasized that acquisitions are not necessary to achieve BWXT's 2030 objectives. Organic investments remain the principal capital allocation priority.

BWXT Maintains Focus on Long-Term Execution

Geveden reiterated the company's 2030 objectives of $5.5-$6 billion in revenue and $1.1-$1.2 billion in adjusted EBITDA, emphasizing contract conversion and manufacturing readiness.

Management's outlook reflects confidence in established programs and productivity improvements while acknowledging that commercial reactor opportunities require further customer commitments and execution.
